Say Goodbye to Spider Veins
Millions of Americans are affected by spider veins and although they are generally not associated with any major medical issues, they are certainly a relevant cosmetic issue for people of all ages. Spider veins are dilated vessels that appear purple and blue, and are easily visible through the skin. They are usually visible on the legs but are occasionally seen on the face as well. These small “spider web” like areas of affected veins can range in size from small patches to large areas covering most or all of the leg. The good news is that there is a minimally invasive procedure that can make these spider veins virtually disappear.
The Solution is Sclerotherapy
At Milligan Vein we utilize Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy, which enables the surgeon to precisely target the area to be treated. A foaming solution is injected which irritates the lining of the vessel causing it to swell and stick together. For more prominent spider veins, multiple treatment sessions may be needed.
The entire Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy procedure is done in the office and requires very little pre-procedure prepping. The procedure itself is very quick and afterwards you will remain lying on the table for approximately 30 minutes. Following the procedure, patients are fitted with a compression stocking and asked to walk around to promote blood flow into the deeper veins.
Are There Any Downsides?
Some of the very few cons of sclerotherapy are that it is generally not covered by insurance and normally is ineffective in treating more complex symptoms of vein disease such as larger varicose veins.
